While last month we spent 350 words tipping our hat to a few local crews, in this second-to-last Clubland of the year, we call attention to the following mammoth bookings that line BC bills in November.
RUSKO & TONN PIPER w/ RONI SIZE & DYNAMITE MC – NOVEMBER 10, CELEBRITIES NIGHTCLUB
Those who feel compelled by New Forms but put off by “Cockney Thug” should rest easy, as Rusko’s turned over a new leaf. Brostepper bitching be damned, Chris Mercer’s interest has been piqued from dubstep back to drum and bass, so don’t come expecting any of that hard stuff. In an early October interview with Joonbug, he explains: “I always play the last 15 or 20 minutes of my set some drum and bass and I’ve found myself looking forward to the last 20 minutes. I’m like, ‘Awww, when can I play the drum and bass bit?’ Why not just follow your heart!” Or in this case, your common sense, as any of the above listed would be worth full ticket price.
CAJMERE w/ KEVIN SHIU, DJ SIAVASH, ALI SANI & MARCELLO – NOVEMBER 22, SHINE NIGHTCLUB
Curtis Alan Jones is a 46-year-old man of many talents. Known as both Green Velvet and Cajmere, in each guise he has continued to wow with an awareness of vocal impact and melodic development, and with house music a professional career for over 25 years now he orchestrates a connection with his audience through intelligence and total refinement in process. His most recent rebirth occurred after a 2010 Special Edition release of Cajmere’s Percolator EP on Dirtybird Records, after which label boss Claude Von Stroke’s remix of the goods didn’t leave decks for months. This show has the potential to top that Top 10 of ’13 list.
STEVE AOKI, WAKA FLOCKA FLAME AND BORGORE w/ BOTNEK & KRYOMAN – NOVEMBER 23, UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA
Oh, Aoki, whatever shall we do with you? Now more likely to be featured on Gawker than XLR8R and with his own ridiculous webisode game show (Google “Chasing with Steve Aoki”), he’s becoming one of those comedic blowhard industry twats whose riders (and tunes) we snort at. Anyway, Waka Flocka’s also on this bill and “Karma” slays, so long as he can avoid Aoki’s flowing locks long enough to drop it, this should be alright.
dBRIDGE w/ KIR MOKUM & MECHWARRIOR w/ MC ELEMENT – NOVEMBER 23, THE WALDORF HOTEL
dBridge at Bass Coast was one of the best sets of 2012… could he take the crown for 2013 too? Don’t miss a solid night packed with good crew and wall-to-wall vibes at the newly revitalized Waldorf!
