The Anciients BUST A MOVE

We all know by now the Anciients have been nominated for a Juno in a new category of ‘best metal/hard rock album’ and they are up against Gorguts, Ken Mode and Protest The Hero. We all know the band is very chuffed at being nominated and consider it an honour. But what we don’t know is what they will be wearing to the Junos on March 24th – 30th. “I want to say I’ll be wearing something nice, but I won’t be. Fairly sure I’ll be going with the Autopsy or Gorgoroth hoody,” Chris Dyck explains as he declines my offer to borrow a formal pink prom dress for the event. Check them out on March 15 at Astoria and wish them luck before the Junos and before they tour Europe and across Canada in the near future.

Dead Meadow Plays Vancouver

Dead Meadow, whose members initially met in the Washington, DC music underground have released eight albums since 1998 (two of them live.) Their first two albums were released on a member of Fugazi’s own label Tolotta. A Peel session was also recorded at that time – though not released until 2012. From the get go this troop bought a heady Psychedelic groove like Black Sabbath meets Spacemen 3, with a surprising depth of song quality. Hints of Neil Young are also present here and there. In 2010 they released Three Kings, a live album soundtrack that highlighted a five-month tour, and following that original drummer Mark Laughlin rejoined the band. Warble Womb, their recent recording, appeared in Nov. 2013 on Xemu Records from New York, an imprint that also reissued the bands earlier catalog. They play on Wed. March 12 at the Electric Owl (926 Main St).

NYB Records releases The Binz new album

Not Yer Buddy Records has released new The Binz album How To Freak Out Responsibly About The Rise Of The Robots. Seamus McThirteen from Not Yer Buddy Records shares his excitement about releasing the album, “This album packs a punch and with all but the last song clocking in at two mins or less. All thriller and no filler. Each song delivers short aggressive bursts of garage rock/post punk domination with undercurrents of political and social awareness while wrapped in melody driven rhythms. You just can’t help but shake your ass front to back this album.  The album is explosive: bomb after bomb after bomb … no duds!” Looking forward to it! Order it here: not-yer-buddy-records.bandcamp.com/album/how-to-freak-out-responsibly-about-the-rise-of-the-robots-cd. And catch The Binz live at their album release with Real Problems and What’s Hot & Hanzai on Thurs. March 13 at the Railway. Check BeatRoute.ca to read more about the Binz.
