1992 is the debut release from Calgary shoegazers, Hana Vave, a four-piece made up of vocalist Geneva Haley, guitarist Connor Dennehy, drummer Alex Lavoie and bassist Josh Boguski, who also did the production. Though the three-song EP clocks in at just 15 minutes long, it still manages to leave an impression.
While 1992 is at times reminiscent of the casual ease of ‘60s surf pop, Hana Vave take a more leisurely approach, with un-rushed, fuzzy guitars and drums complementing Haley’s daydreamy vocals. Perhaps the most compelling is the title track, which creates a sense of yearning and a momentum that lingers long after the final notes.
1992 is an impressive start for Hana Vave and whets the appetite for more from this Calgary band in the future.
