CUFF 2014 PREVIEW: ASPHALT WATCHES

In their breakout film, Asphalt Watches, directors Shayne Ehman and Seth Scriver tell their own personal adventure in this autobiographical, playfully animated feature. The tale follows Bucktooth Cloud (voiced by Ehman) and Skeleton Hat (voiced by Scriver) as they journey across Canada on a road trip. Meeting all sorts of hilarious people along the way, Bucktooth and Skeleton go from one car to another, with something always happening to make the trip exciting.

This award-winning film from the Toronto International Film Festival is very original, drawing from the basics of two-dimensional animation and storyboarding. Each encounter with a new place showcases the many different personalities of Canada – both the land and people – such as the utter flatness of the prairies to rednecks in trucks. Taking nearly seven years to complete, Asphalt Watches is a truly bizarre and unique film for anyone who loves any and all of the strange and wonderful people and places across the great nation of Canada.

Asphalt Watches will be screening as part of CUFF on April 11 at 9:45 p.m.
