IRON MIC MUSIC FESTIVAL

EE---Iron-Mic-FestWESTERN CANADA’S LARGEST INDOOR HIP HOP MUSIC FESTIVAL

On April 19th, the Edmonton Expo Centre will be host to the debut Iron Mic Music Festival, which is presented by Pearl Entertainment. Headliners include Ghostface Killah (a prominent member of the Wu-Tang Clan), Machine Gun Kelly (of Cleveland, Ohio, whose stage name appropriately represents his continuous bursts of automatic flow), Action Bronson (rising heavyweight in hip hop), Smoke DZA (of Harlem, New York and who is has been in the business of hip-hop for over a decade) and Joey Bada$$ (Brooklyn, New York’s rising star).

“What we want to do is create a movement for hip hop and take it to the next level,” explains Miyuru Fernando, Iron Mic Music Festival co-founder. “We want Iron Mic to represent all that is good in hip hop and we want fans to relate with the grassroots efforts behind this festival.”

In addition to some of today’s biggest names in hip hop, this festival also provides an opportunity for local emerging hip hop artists to perform under the same roof. The local line-up consists of: Mitch Lawler and Conch, Brothers Grim Young Tox, Cursive Nucky Thomas and Jim Duggin, Chubby C and Domino, K-Blitz Str8 Gutta, Kozikoze and Vaughan James.

Fernando has been in the business for a long time and doesn’t want to stop throwing shows after Iron Mic Festival: “I think the first show we did was a smaller show with Ventura-based Kyle, who’s now on a massive tour with G-Easy. We learned a lot on that show and met a ton of people. We have been rallying together everyone in the local scene… we have definitely blown up the number of shows and are giving locals more opportunity to open for artists like Redman, T-Pain, Twista and countless others. Iron Mic is just the next level of that spirit.”

A passion for the music is the main inspiration for the festival. The two have been involved in various aspects of the hip hop scene in Edmonton for years now. “Dima Perelman and I have been throwing events for the last five years and we always wanted to organize a festival of our own,” says Fernando. “We both want to organize and promote events the rest of our lives. Iron Mic just happens to the first festival.”

Fernando noted he received much community support from local promoters including: Dubsac, Diamond Kings Entertainment, Mez Muzik, Entertainment and Jakmove. “I also want to send a shout out to Sarah Sussman and the whole Hip Hop Canada family,” adds Fernando.

This show will be accessible to everyone: it is an all ages event. A portion of ticket sales will go to a charity that is to be announced.

Don’t miss out on this monumental festival! Tickets are available for purchase via Ticketmaster (online and at all Ticketmaster vendors), as well as at Foosh (10544 – 82 Ave. NW), Quantum Leaf (11727 Jasper Ave.), FS (located inside of West Edmonton Mall), and ROZ Urban Wear (located inside of Londonderry Mall) in Edmonton.
