VANCOUVER MENSCH FOLLOWS HIS HEART

A new Vancouver band has been born onto the scene and you should know about it.

Jason Corbett — formerly of TV Heart Attack — has left the over-saturated pop-rock scene and followed his heart and ambition to a new style of muse: “Berlin-era-Bowie.” His newest band, Actors, is the love-it-or-hate-it product of Corbett’s love for David Bowie, Iggy Pop and their comrades, and his passion for writing music to the beat of his own synth drum.

“I didn’t want to just be another pop band competing with Mariana’s Trench,” he says. “As cheesy as it sounds, I just started writing music for myself.” It obviously worked. The music sounds amazing and has already been incorporated into Dutil Denim’s compilation album, and that’s all before anything even been released.

After spending a few weeks in Berlin and touring the Hansa Studio where Bowie recorded, Corbett wrote eight songs, recorded the debut 7” PTL (Post Traumatic Love), and formed a band with four others. A limited edition run of 300 vinyl copies will be available at the release show (100 black, 100 pink, and 100 coke-bottle glass) as a beautiful, classy way of hanging onto the music.

“I’ve never really wanted to make a CD, my dream was always to make a record, so I did,” Corbett admitted.

So here it is, aesthetically pleasing and as retro as it gets. Of course the music will also be available for digital download off of Northern Lights Records, and the single is already available. If dreamy, romantic, new wave with synth and keys appeals to you, I would jump on it.

Actors will release PTL at the Cobalt on October 4.
